Editor's note: Richard called me a few days ago. He was in good spirits and said he was writing me another letter which he would send soon. His typewriter is not in great working order as a (now former) cell mate had poured water into it. A group of other inmates who watch out for Richard made sure that cell mate would never bother him again.

Editor's Note: Richard has called me twice in the past 2 weeks. He said he is writing more stories and asked me to remind his readers that his fellow inmates are mostly drug addicts. As they are his only source of new information his newsletters will be mostly about them and what he is learning about them.
He says that Land of the Lotus Eaters is fiction based on fact and with today's story he is continuing the tale.

Editor's Note: Was happy to find this in the mail when I returned from my trip to Nashville yesterday. Richard is happily back in the quad with other inmates while we fight to get him transferred to a facility where he can have the care he needs, hopefully closer to his family in Southern California.
Again he is writing a story gleaned from his conversations with other inmates..a strange tale, indeed.

Editor's Note: Here is the latest from Richard. Nancy kindly sent me a copy so I could pass it on to his friends. I will be out of town for the next 10 days and will get back to you in 2 weeks. Just remember that all of you are an inspiration and you are an important part of his morale.

Editor's note: This trip report was written a few weeks ago when Richard was still in his isolated hospital cell. One evening Richard had fallen while taking a shower, hit his head on the floor, managed to drag himself to his cot, scraping his arm badly in the process, No one found him until the next day as the bell to summon nurses was permanently out of order.
He was finally (and happily) moved to a quad where he rejoined the regular prison population. 10 days ago he wrote his daughter, Nancy, a letter to say that the word was that he would be sent back to the hospital as he now needs around the clock care. He feels certain that he will die there. I have not heard from him since then so I will publish his trip report now and hope that I will soon have news for you.
